White Castle joins fast-food price wars
ShareShareShareShareShare

The looming end of summer is seemingly bringing about a fresh round of fast-food deal meals.

On the heels of Jimmy John’s launching a $10 special, White Castle has rolled out a deal that will see the burger chain offer its lowest prices since 2011.

Customers can now get a sack of 10 cheese sliders for $7.99. The deal was initially launched in St. Louis to mark White Castle’s 99th anniversary in that market, but it proved popular enough that the company expanded it nationwide.

“Families everywhere are tired of almost needing a small loan when they go out for fast food, and we know these days our customers want to make every penny count,” Jamie Richardson, vice president at White Castle, said in a press release.

Wannabe Harold and Kumars will have three choices for the slider sacks: American, smoked cheddar, and jalapeño. The company did not say how long the deal would be offered.

2024 has been the summer of slashed prices at fast-food chains as companies work to win back customers who have grown frustrated with inflationary pressures at the drive-thru. This year has seen plenty of claims of “McFlation,” which followed reports of about $8 chicken sandwiches and $18 Big Mac meals. (McDonald’s CEO Joe Erlinger addressed that last month, issuing a public letter to counter what he called the “viral social posts and poorly sourced reports that McDonald’s has raised prices significantly beyond inflationary rates”. )

McDonald’s, since June, has offered a $5 meal at most locations nationwide and has extended its availability until at least the end of this month. Wendy’s and Burger King, along with several other chains, have offered deals of their own.

McDonald’s last week reported its same-store sales fell for the first time since 2020.
