What We Can Learn From OpenAI Firing Their CEO
ShareShareShareShareShare

It can happen to anyone and it just happened to the leader of one of the hottest companies of our generation. Open AI, the tech startup behind ChatGPT, recently fired and then rehired their CEO. There was a lot more to it behind the scenes but it just goes to show that you can’t ever fully predict what’s going to happen in your career. Here are 3 lessons we can learn from this situation.

Your Career Is Never Going To Be 100% Safe

If the leader of one of the most innovative companies of this generation can get let go, that mean it can happen to any one of us in a corporate job! Now, I am not encouraging you to always be paranoid and keep an eye over your shoulder, but I am telling you to always keep options open. This will also increase your market value when you are interviewing for new roles.

Your Personal Brand Matters

You see how quickly Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, got a new job at Microsoft? Well it’s because of his brand! The CEO of Microsoft already knew about Sam and that’s what you want for your career as well. You want important people to know, like, and trust you. Your personal brand can get you hired even when you don’t apply to jobs.

Being A Boomerang Is Possible

You know the phrase: “the grass isn’t always greener on the other side?” Well it really depends. Sometimes it can be, sometimes it’s not. And if your new job is not, if you have the reputation to go back, that option is always there. The world is small and you never know when paths will cross again. Try your best to leave things better than when you got there and most things will work out in your favor.
