Which term, ‘virtual assistants’ or ‘co-pilots’?
ShareShareShareShareShare

Interestingly, human resource technology—which sometimes seems like a world of bots and beeps—is truly about communication. In a thoughtful report titled Language Matters: AI User Perceptions, analyst firm Valoir discovered that—despite the prevalent tech industry attachment to the term “co-pilot” for AI tools and chatbots—when it comes to AI and workers, that term is just not gaining traction. Among the 300-plus workers surveyed, “co-pilot” does not resonate positively, nor do employees think it significantly encourages the adoption of AI technology.

According to Valoir’s findings, workers express a preference for the term “virtual assistant,” with nearly 50% indicating their inclination toward this designation over alternatives such as “co-pilot,” “virtual friend” or “virtual coach.”

Another wordy tidbit was revealed by a project conducted by QR code generator QRFY identifying the most frequently used words on U.S. resumes. The study examined 50 common terms and phrases, analyzing their prevalence in resumes updated within the last six months using Indeed’s Resume Search. If you can believe it, “responsible” claimed the top spot, appearing in over 5.1 million resumes.

QRFY also hunted down words that were commonly misspelled, revealing that “professional,” followed by “organized” and “environment,” are the top three inaccurate terms.

It’s easy to get complacent in how we think employees and colleagues communicate, but sometimes the messaging can be slightly off. For HR leaders, this can make the difference between delivering a successful communication campaign and one that flops—impacting both the success of tech like AI and workers.

Now for the news…

HR tech in action

Microsoft recently announced a strategic collaboration with Mistral, an AI start-up in Paris. This development underscores Microsoft’s dedication to expanding its footprint in the dynamic AI sector, extending beyond its current partnership with OpenAI and on a global level. After some buzz in the news this week, the French government stated it had no prior knowledge of the deal, dismissing hints of French lobbying for relaxed European AI regulations on behalf of the U.S. tech giant.

Meanwhile, Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch restated via social media the company’s dedication to being an “independent European company with global ambitions.”

Background screening servicer First Advantage announced its intention to acquire rival company Sterling Check in a $2.2 billion cash-and-stock transaction. The move comes as both companies aim to address slowing demand amid the challenges posed by the global economic downturn.

Green Dot, a digital bank and fintech firm, introduced a collaboration with HCM company Dayforce. Through Green Dot’s platform, this partnership will drive Dayforce Wallet, the company’s on-demand pay solution.

Lenke Taylor, CPO at Personio

Personio, a Germany-based European HR software company catering to small and medium-sized organizations, has named Lenke Taylor (formerly with Google, BuzzFeed and Twitch) as its new chief people officer. This hire is aimed to bolster the company’s growth in its upcoming phase.

HCM platform ADP has rolled out AI-enabled partner solutions on ADP Marketplace, allowing HR leaders to integrate artificial intelligence into their HCM ecosystems quickly. With 800-plus partners worldwide, ADP Marketplace provides AI-enabled solutions vetted for responsible AI principles.
