Projections of tax filings by return type

In 2023, 161,781,457 taxpayers filed individual income tax returns and 8,269,075 taxpayers filed corporate income tax returns — but the Internal Revenue Service projects that the amount of taxpayers filing these forms will increase by about 10,000,000 and 500,000, respectively, over the next eight years.

Only 1,115,847 taxpayers filed employee plans, Forms 5500, 5500EZ, and 5500SF in 2023. That number is projected to decrease by about 150,000 over the next eight years.
