Whitley Penn merges in JetRock Analytics

Whitley Penn, a Top 50 Firm based in Fort Worth, Texas, is adding JetRock Analytics LLC, an energy consulting firm based in Austin, Texas, effective Sept. 1, 2025. 

JetRock mainly focuses on the oil and gas industry, complementing Whitley Penn’s services for clients in the energy sector.

“Both firms bring complementary strengths and a unified vision for delivering high-impact advisory services across key industries of focus,” said Whitley Penn CEO Nathen McEown in a statement Thursday. “JetRock and Whitley Penn are both known for delivering tailored, high-touch service. This partnership enhances that commitment, offering clients a seamless experience with expanded capabilities and deeper support.”

JetRock’s team will join Whitley Penn’s growing digital services practice and its data analytics unit to deliver data-driven solutions across industries, particularly the energy sector.

“We’re excited to collaborate with such a distinguished firm, helping Whitley Penn’s clients while broadening the range of services available for our own,” said JetRock managing partner Justin Birmingham in a statement. “Through our partnership with Whitley Penn, our clients will gain access to a comprehensive suite of public accounting and advisory services.” 

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Whitley Penn ranked No. 34 on Accounting Today’s 2025 list of the Top 100 Firms, with $238.3 million in annual revenue, over 90 partners and approximately 850 employees. With the JetRock deal, Whitely Penn is adding one partner (Birmingham) and his entire team.

In 2023, Whitley Penn merged in Fisher, Herbst & Kemble in San Antonio, Texas, and Cogenics Consulting, a technology consulting firm in Pleasanton, California. In 2022, the firm quietly canceled an announced merger with another Top 40 Firm, Elliott Davis, which would have produced a combined firm with about $400 million in annual revenue. In 2020, Whitley Penn expanded by adding Werlein & Harris, a firm in Houston, and Johnson, Miller & Co., a firm in Midland, Texas. In 2019, it merged in Speer & Associates, a firm based in Dallas, and in 2018, it added Dossani, Turnage & Van Hoose and its affiliate, Impact Financial Solutions, also in the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
