Thanks to its June expansion into the Pacific Northwest, Utah-based Sadler Gibb & Associates brought on the most new Securities and Exchange Commission audit clients in the second quarter.

The Salt Lake City firm added Spokane, Washington-based Assure CPAs at the start of the summer, which brought 11 of Sadler Gibb’s 13 new clients for the quarter. (It netted 10.) (See “Net engagement leaders.“)

Also growing by acquisition in June was Los Angeles-based Simon & Edward, which brought on six new clients after acquiring the attest business of Irvine, California-based BCRG Group.

Meanwhile, among the largest audit firms, Big Four firm KPMG topped the list with eight new clients and a net of six, while Grant Thornton added 11 new clients, netting three. (See “Q2 2026 client gains & losses.”)

Overall, auditors picked up 160 new SEC engagements in Q2, down slightly from the previous quarter, but in line with the long-term average over the past five years or so.

New client leaders

KPMG led the audit field in terms of both new market capitalization audited and new audit fees. The two biggest contributors for the former were bitcoin mining and hosting company BitMine Immersion Technologies, with $10.24 billion, and neuroscience biopharmaceutical company Praxis Precision Medicines, with $7.16 billion, while critical infrastructure investor, developer and manager FTAI Infrastructure Inc.’s $5.9 million accounted for the largest individual share of the Big Four firm’s $16.36 million in new audit fees. (See “New Client Leaders.“)

Ernst & Young topped the table for new assets audited, with mutual fund suite Ivy Funds making up the lion’s share, with $36.38 billion.

Coming in second in new market cap audited was Deloitte, thanks almost entirely to home manufacturer Sun Communities Inc.’s $15.1 billion, while PricewaterhouseCoopers came in second for new assets audited, with $23.41 billion from investment company Innovator ETFs Trust.

Finally, Grant Thornton took second in new audit fees, thanks to its wide range of new clients for the quarter.
