I’m Steve Boese, program chair for the HR Technology Conference, and this is the first in a series of weekly updates ahead of the conference in October.
With just over 50 days until the start of the HR Technology Conference in Las Vegas, it’s safe to say the countdown for the HR tech community’s flagship event is in full swing. In the last few weeks, there has been a flurry of conference activity—including the announcement of the keynotes, featured mega sessions and the release of the full program, which spans four days, and features 300-plus speakers across more than 125 sessions.
On top of all that content and learning, the world-famous HR Tech Conference Expo will once again showcase all the best in HR technology solutions and providers, with more than 400 innovative HR tech providers in attendance.
This year, the HR technology industry—and by extension the HR Tech Conference—is shaping up to be more important than ever for HR, IT and business leaders, and their organizations. In fewer than 12 months, since the last HR Tech Conference, we’ve seen the rapid growth of a new type of technology—generative AI, best known from the breakneck pace of adoption of ChatGPT by both individuals and in their organizations.
While AI is not new in HR technology, this new expression of AI has turned enterprise technology into a kind of arms race to see which providers can deliver real value in HCM solutions by tapping into the vast potential of generative AI systems. I can attest from participating in Human Resource Executive‘s “Top HR Products” process over the last few months that almost every HR tech provider has introduced, or is about to introduce, generative AI technology into their offerings.

And with all this hype around generative AI, HR and business leaders are being challenged to find ways to incorporate these powerful capabilities in their organizations. From recruiting to developing talent to understanding employees’ skills to writing better job advertisements—and plenty more—generative AI is shaking up the HR technology industry more than any other single development since the introduction of cloud computing and SaaS applications.
Generative AI is a big deal — and will be discussed at HR Tech
I’m generally not one to get too excited about each new HR tech trend that pops up, but generative AI, I think, is a really big deal. And it’s likely to impact how HR is performed in a meaningful way. The best and probably only place where HR, IT and business leaders can truly get the information, updates, insights and hands-on experiences with generative AI in HR technology will be at the HR Technology Conference this October.
From the dozens of expert sessions covering the topic to the hundreds of providers in the Expo Hall who can walk you through how they’re incorporating these technologies into HCM systems and processes, and the countless conversations you’re likely to have with industry leaders and your peers about generative AI, attending HR Tech will allow you to cram months’ worth of learning and research into one week.
In the weeks leading up to HR Tech, I will check in here with more information about the event, previews of important sessions and activities, and maybe even a few questions for our illustrious keynoters and featured speakers.
