HR Policy Association names new board chair
ShareShareShareShareShare

AbbVie CHRO Tim Richmond will join the HR Policy Association as the new chair of its board of directors beginning Sept. 10, the association announced Tuesday.

Richmond will replace outgoing chair Pam Kimmet, CHRO of Manulife, following her six-year tenure leading the board of the HR public policy organization.

“Pam helped guide our organization through a period of extraordinary transformation as we faced the unprecedented challenges of supporting our member companies in navigating both a global pandemic and a heightened focus on social and geopolitical issues,” Timothy Bartl, president and CEO of the HR Policy Association, said in a statement. “Tim will build on the strong foundation Pam has laid as we help CHROs tackle complex issues such as the rapidly evolving global employment policy landscape; the work, workforce and workplace implications of technology disruption; and much more.”

Bartl said the association is “excited about this next chapter” under Richmond’s board leadership. Richmond most recently served as board vice chair and chair of the board selection committee at the 56-year-old HRPA.

Timothy Richmond, AbbVie

Richmond, a Human Resource Executive HR Honor Roll inductee in 2016 who became a fellow of the National Academy of HR in 2020, has experience driving growth at an organization with a rich history.

He joined pharmaceutical research and development company AbbVie as its first senior vice president of human resources following its spinoff from the more than 135-year-old Abbott Laboratories in 2013. Before the spinoff, Richmond worked for Abbott, which he joined in 2006.

As HRPA board chair, Richmond will oversee the organization’s public policy work, such as its support of the Healthcare Transparency Bill and efforts to overturn a National Labor Relations Board decision dealing with political protests in the workplace.

“In my view, the HR Policy Association is the best-in-class organization for senior human resource executives,” Richmond said in a statement. “I am honored to take on this role and look forward to leading the board as we explore new ways for us to continue to meet the needs of large global companies.”
