The Institute of Management Accountants has appointed Richard Brady, CEO of the American Society of Military Comptrollers, to chair its board of directors for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.

As CEO of the ASMC, he represents more than 14,000 financial management professionals in the public and private sectors of the defense/aerospace industry. He also recently retired as a colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps after 32 years of service.

As chair this year, he plans to focus on assessing the current needs of IMA members worldwide and better servicing their development as professionals through new initiatives and offerings, especially in IMA’s growing global markets. Brady also plans to work closely with new IMA president and CEO Mike DePrisco on the initiatives he intends to introduce in the coming fiscal year.

“I’m honored to serve in IMA’s senior volunteer role and work in developing, certifying, and supporting accounting and financial professionals globally,” Brady said in a statement Thursday. “As IMA enters a new chapter, we need to grow with new products and services based on our members’ needs. I am looking forward to focusing on enhancing our value to our members and growing our profession globally in my year as chair.”

Brady holds a bachelor’s degree in international business from Saint Louis University, a master’s in finance from the Naval Postgraduate School, and a master’s in strategic resource management from the National Defense University, and he participated in the Executive Development Program at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

An IMA member since 1999, he has been a member of the global board since 2018 and earned his Certified Management Accountant credential in 2008.

Separately, former IMA president and CEO Jeff Thomson recently began working with accounting education provider Becker in a strategic partnership where he will assume the role of executive in residence, with an emphasis in thought leadership and global business development. His responsibilities include global strategic advice on go-to-market planning in accounting, training and development.

In his new role, Thomson will focus on three areas: thought leadership, the CMA exam review market and international expansion. Thomson also began working last month as a senior strategic advisor to Competent Boards, a Toronto-based provider of online environmental, social, governance and climate education programs for board directors and business leaders.
