H&R Block hiring tax pros ahead of tax season
ShareShareShareShareShare

H&R Block is looking to hire between 60,000 and 80,000 tax pro associates ahead of next filing season.

Open roles include tax pros, tax office leaders, receptionists and bookkeepers, and hiring volumes vary by region. Block said that compensation varies by role, location and experience. Some online sources say Block pays a little more than $20 an hour for mid-level tax pros in some parts of the country, with flexibility for evenings and weekends highly desirable among junior Block hires.

Candidates apply via a two to five-minute application. “Tax professional” candidates take a tax knowledge assessment or pass the Income Tax Course Interview (candidates are screened and interviewed by local leadership).

If an offer is extended, candidates will need to complete background checks and complete onboarding documentation, and then, if hired, they will receive role-specific training and orientation.

Tax associates must complete the H&R Block Income Tax Course; tuition is free, but there is a charge for course materials in all states except for Maine, New York, South Carolina and Tennessee or in-person courses in Oklahoma. Course materials are offered for $149 in most states and $99 in Minnesota.

“The Experienced Tax Professional” requires one to two years’ tax prep experience and passing of a Block Tax Knowledge Assessment.
