Top 50 Firm Doeren Mayhew acquired Nashville-based CPA firm Carson & McKinney CPAs, expanding its presence in the region, effective as of Sept. 22.

Carson & McKinney was founded in 1932 and provides tax, assurance, consulting and outsourced accounting services to individuals and businesses throughout Middle Tennessee. It has over 800 employees and 19 offices worldwide. Its managing principal Chad McKinney joins Doeren Mayhew as a principal in the regional leadership team.

“The state of the industry is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by evolving tax regulations and accounting standards. Collaborating with a firm of Doeren Mayhew’s caliber gives our clients access to additional services and resources, with a more holistic approach to high-quality client service,” McKinney said in a statement. “We are confident this partnership will elevate our capacity to provide the next level of forward-looking value to our clients for their continued success.”

This is the firm’s eighth deal this year. It first entered the Nashville market earlier this year in March with the acquisition of Thurman Campbell Group. Its most recent deal took place in July with the acquisition of AGL CPA Group in Georgia, which expanded its geographic footprint to the greater Atlanta region.

Doeren Mayhew, which is based in Troy, Michigan, took a private equity investment from Audax Private Equity in August 2024. It ranked No. 47 on Accounting Today‘s Top 100 Firms list, reporting $170 million in revenue, nine offices, 108 partners and 720 employees.

Bob Yates, Doeren Mayhew’s greater Nashville managing principal, added: “We are thrilled to welcome Carson & McKinney to our firm. Having a long-standing relationship with Chad McKinney, we know firsthand his teams’ deep commitment to their clients. Our shared client philosophy and combined local bench strength better positions us for future success in the market, while enhancing our clients’ experiences with us.”
