Sowers offers tax, advisory and accounting services to high-net-worth individuals and small and midsized businesses in the Houston area. Founder and president Jason Sowers and shareholder Erin Fowler will join Doeren Mayhew as principals. The deal marks Doeren Mayhew’s fifth acquisition in Houston in the past year and brings its local headcount to 220 employees.

“Our Houston office has gained strong momentum in the market over the past year, and Sowers & Company aligns well with our continued strategic growth efforts,” Chris Masters, Houston managing principal at Doeren Mayhew Advisors, said in a statement. “Jason and Erin have built a respected tax and accounting practice with strong technical expertise, including an emphasis on estate planning. Their back-office accounting services will also complement our firm nicely.”

Doeren Mayhew, based in Troy, Michigan, ranked No. 37 on Accounting Today‘s 2026 Top 100 Firms list. It reported $240 million in revenue and now has over 1,300 employees nationwide and nearly 1,500 globally.

In 2024, it received a private equity investment from Audax Private Equity, with the goal of growing its geographic footprint through continued acquisitions. This year, it has acquired McMillan, Whiteman & Associates and Parlade Schaefer Schortz, both in Florida, and New York-based advisory firm 1RDG. In 2025, it completed 13 deals, expanding into markets like Nashville, Atlanta and Miami.

“We’re delighted to join Doeren Mayhew and bring added resources to our clients and employees,” Sowers said in a statement. “Our goal was to find the right firm to help us evolve with the industry. Doeren Mayhew’s suite of services enables us to strengthen our client relationships, bring additional technical resources to the table and further develop our team so they can continue to excel in their careers.”
