ShareShareShareShareShare

The Financial Accounting Foundation announced Hillary Salo as the next vice chair of the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

Salo begins her five-year term on July 1, 2024, and will succeed current FASB vice chair James Kroeker, whose term concludes June 30, 2024.

“When we hired Hillary as technical director four years ago, we were looking for someone with outstanding experience at the highest levels of professional accounting as well as strong leadership skills,” FASB chair Richard Jones said in a statement. “Hillary has demonstrated strength in both of these areas, and I’m very pleased to have her bring this great set of skills and experience to the FASB as vice chair.”

Hillary Salo

Salo started her career at FASB in 2003 as a technical assistant after graduating with a degree in business administration and a master’s in accountancy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She then joined KPMG in the Chicago office in the accounting advisory services group before moving to the audit quality and professional practice group in the New York City office.

She also worked as a professional accounting fellow in the Office of the Chief Accountant at the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2013 to 2015, before returning to KPMG in 2015 as a partner in the audit practice. Salo rejoined FASB in 2020 as technical director and chair of its Emerging Issues Task Force.

“Hillary has demonstrated outstanding leadership since the day she returned to FASB as technical director and chair of the Emerging Issues Task Force,” FAF chair Edward Bernard said in a statement. “The board of trustees is pleased to have Hillary bring her deep knowledge of accounting and her leadership skills to FASB as the vice chair, and we are confident she will continue to represent the very best of our organization in the years ahead.”

Salo’s term as FASB vice chair will conclude on June 30, 2029, when she will be eligible for consideration for reappointment.
