How New AI Model Fosters Inclusivity And Counters Bias, Providing An Equitable Future

Artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly impacted the last few years, but we continue to see bias, lack of diversity, and inclusion in the workforce and higher educational institutions. With that said, the future of AI is hitting a major milestone with the release of Latimar. This platform symbolizes a significant step in fostering inclusivity within Large Language Models (LLMs). According to PR Newswire, Latimar has been labeled the Black GPT; Latimer aims to enhance the AI user experience by fostering a racially inclusive LLM environment. It deeply incorporates cultural and historical perspectives of Black and Brown communities, expanding on Meta’s model through the integration of African-American historical and cultural data. John Pasmore, Latimer Founder and CEO, states, “We are establishing the building blocks of what the future of AI needs to include, and in doing so, we are working to create an equitable and necessary layer of technology that can be utilized by all demographics.” According to the Pew Research Center, over 60% of Americans are concerned about AI bias and potential discrimination during the hiring process.

Furthermore, Latimer aims to tackle this problem. Latimer training incorporates diverse strategies to minimize biases inherent in these new tools. It also includes supplementary training on Black and Brown histories. Notably, the platform has collaborated with esteemed American scholar and professor Molefi Kete Asante in developing the learning model.

Why Representation Matters In AI

Artificial Intelligence (AI) enables computers to execute tasks traditionally requiring human intelligence. Despite its transformative potential, AI systems are susceptible to biases similar to their creators. Genuine Representation in AI development must surpass mere “diversity of thought” to avoid potentially harmful outcomes.

Nurturing a genuinely inclusive environment requires the equitable representation of diverse groups in the AI that’s developed. When specific communities are omitted from training datasets, inherent advantages accrue to particular populations, creating systems that perpetuate false narratives and hinder progress, denying opportunities to those left at the margins. According to contributor Elijah Clark in a recent AI article, despite the corporate world’s rapid integration of generative AI systems, many experts advise exercising caution due to the significant shortcomings in AI’s portrayal of diversity. From text generators reinforcing stereotypes to facial recognition demonstrating racial bias, the ethical concerns surrounding these issues cannot be overlooked.

In light of this, Latimer takes proactive measures to address these obstacles by fostering extensive collaboration with marginalized communities in AI development.

The Investment of AI And Its Effect On The Future

AI has the potential to significantly impact the next generation of workers in both a positive and negative way as AI continues to become more progressive. The World Economic Forum’s “The Future of Jobs Report 2020” predicts AI will replace 85 million jobs globally by 2025. The same report also indicates that AI can potentially generate 97 million new roles.

According to data compiled by Pitchbook for Bloomberg, AI startups in Silicon Valley attracted significant investments, totaling $17.9 billion in the third quarter of 2023. This amount surpassed funding totals for all other technology categories, marking a 27% increase in AI funding globally compared to the previous year’s third quarter. Despite a global decline in overall startup deals, the value of funding for AI companies continues to rise.

The Impact Of Inclusive Data And Removing Bias: How Latimer Is Impacting the Future for All

Artificial Intelligence (AI) models have firmly established their place in modern industries, presenting a unique opportunity to cultivate a more equitable and inclusive workforce. With platforms like Latimer prioritizing inclusivity within Large Language Models (LLMs), organizations can harness AI technologies to streamline operations, boost efficiency, and actively champion diversity, equity, and inclusion. For executives curious about how this can be accomplished, the following section outlines five key ways impact can be achieved in the workforce.

5 Ways AI Model Latimer Can Impact The Workforce

Improved communication: LLM models facilitate language translation and interpretation, ensuring effective communication across diverse teams, irrespective of language barriers or literacy levels.

Bias mitigation: By integrating inclusive datasets and fairness techniques, LLM models reduce biases in decision-making, fostering fairer outcomes and preventing the perpetuation of workplace inequalities.

Customized learning: Leveraging LLM models, organizations can create personalized learning programs catering to various learning styles and abilities, fostering an inclusive environment conducive to developing a diverse workforce, including individuals with disabilities.

Diverse Representation: AI LLM models promote a culture of inclusivity by amplifying diverse perspectives and voices within the workforce, creating an environment that values and embraces the contributions of employees from all backgrounds.

Societal problem-solving: LLM models aid in developing solutions for addressing equity and inclusion challenges, such as biased hiring processes, accessibility barriers, and workplace discrimination, thereby fostering a more inclusive and equitable work environment for all employees.

From mitigating biases in recruitment and decision-making to fostering an inclusive work environment that accommodates diverse perspectives and needs, AI can play a pivotal role in shaping a more equitable and inclusive future for the global workforce. This shift marks a crucial turning point, emphasizing the importance of leveraging AI as a catalyst for positive social change and empowering organizations to cultivate a more inclusive and equitable workplace environment for all employees.

Currently, Latimer is focused on providing an inclusive AI tool specific to students, agencies, and brands, as well as the general public. A waitlist for the new platform is available on the Latimer website at www.latimer.ai.
