HR tech for workforce intelligence is turning data into action
ShareShareShareShareShare

Many analysts report that traditional approaches to talent management are giving way to dynamic, data-driven strategies enabled by HR tech. Sara Gutierrez, chief science officer at talent acquisition platform SHL, says artificial intelligence is at the heart of this transformation.

“Roles are becoming more fluid, teams more cross-functional and career paths less linear,” Gutierrez explains. Organizations that adapt to this shift will be best positioned to attract, retain and develop top talent, she predicts.

The HR tech marketplace is populated with new, AI-powered talent intelligence tools that provide insights into workforce capabilities. These tools are moving companies beyond rigid job frameworks, allowing them to think more strategically about skills, potential and future readiness.

“Where we once operated reactively—filling roles, plugging gaps and relying on intuition—AI is helping us operate proactively,” Gutierrez says. The technology enables organizations to forecast critical skills, identify employees with growth potential and meaningfully personalize development, she says.

Critically, this approach is not about automation but augmentation. By using bias-mitigated, data-driven assessments, companies can uncover talent in unexpected places, including among neurodiverse candidates and those without traditional credentials.

According to Gutierrez, the future of work is clear: Career paths are becoming more like skill trees than linear ladders, and internal mobility is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity. For many HR leaders, enabling this will require technology support.

As Gutierrez emphasizes, “The most inclusive organizations will be those that use AI not to reinforce old patterns, but to challenge them.”

More from HR Executive

Anna Carlsson, founder of HR Digi analyst firm, says that broader digitalization, not just AI, will address the emerging skills gap. Carlsson raises a key question: “Are we going to be HR as it is in the future?” Learn from her conversation with HR pros from Fiskars and Spotify.

How can people leaders integrate AI in HR to harness its value without losing the benefits of traditional human-led HR? This is the challenge IBM’s HR teams faced, says CHRO Nickle LaMoreaux, 2024 HR Executive of the Year.

A new study from ADP Research found that about 31% of the 38,000 global workers it surveyed report being scared, to some degree, that AI will replace their jobs. How can HR help bridge that gap? It may come down to addressing “anxiety about the unknown,” ADP found.
