The foundation’s trustees have asked the vice chair of the board, Linda Mezon-Hutter, to serve as acting chair to cover the transition.
Barckow announced last fall that he would step down at the end of his first term, and the trustees began a search for a successor at the time, with the assistance of an executive search firm.
“I thank Andreas for his significant contributions to the work of the IASB and his many achievements during his time as chair, as well as his ongoing commitment to the role until his term completes in June 2026,” the chair of the trustees, Erkki Liikanen, said in a statement at the time.
Barckow started his five-year term in 2021, succeeding Hans Hoogervorst, who had led the board as chair for 10 years.
Prior to becoming chair, Barckow had overseen the German standard-setting board, also known as Deutsches Rechnungslegungs Standards Committee, since 2015. He was active in advisory committees for both the IASB and the IFRS Foundation, including the IASB’s Accounting Standards Advisory Forum and the IFRS Advisory Council. He was formerly the lead technical partner for financial reporting matters in the German member firm of Deloitte in Frankfurt.
Mezon-Hutter joined the IASB in 2022; prior to that she was chair of the Canadian Accounting Standards Board from 2013 to 2022, and earlier served on the board from 2004 to 2013. She was previously chief accountant at the Royal Bank of Canada, and holds a BA in Accounting from Michigan State University, and an MBA from the University of Detroit.
