Your guide to what Trump’s second term means for Washington, business and the world
Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is resigning from Congress after a dramatic falling out with US President Donald Trump.
Greene announced her resignation in a nearly 11-minute video posted to social media on Friday night, saying she had “too much self-respect and dignity” to “endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the president we all fought for”.
Greene said her last day in office would be January 5 2026.
The controversial rightwing congresswoman was first elected to Congress in 2020 to represent Georgia’s 14th congressional district. She has long been one of Trump’s loudest supporters.
But the two had a very public split this month when Greene became one of the most vocal rank-and-file Republicans to call for the Trump administration to release government files relating to Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump last week withdrew his endorsement for Greene in a lengthy social media post, saying she was “wacky” and had “gone far left”. He later called her a “traitor”.
Trump did not immediately comment on Greene’s announcement.
This is a developing story.
