On the move: Barry Melancon honored by IFAC
ShareShareShareShareShare

Barry Melancon and Prof. Lumkile Wiseman Nkuhlu have received the IFAC Global Leadership Award from the International Federation of Accountants. Melancon, who recently named chair of Baker Tilly International, served for more than 30 years as head of the American Institute of CPAs, while Nkuhlu, the first Black chartered accountant in South Africa, has expanded the profession in South Africa and across the entire continent.

Separately, IFAC named a number of new and reappointed board members: new members include Onome Adewuyi of Nigeria, Áine Collins of Ireland, Silvia Giordano of Argentina, Philip Kakai of Kenya, Brian McEnery of the U.K., and Jungeun Shim of Korea, while reappointed the board members include Kathryn Byrne of the U.S., Francisco Sant’Anna of Brazil, and Sidharta Utama of Indonesia. The federation also admitted a new member organization, the Kampuchea Institute of CPAs and Auditors from Cambodia, and a new associate member, the Ordre National des Experts-Comptables de la République Démocratique du Congo from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Finally, IFAC’s Nominating Committee is looking for volunteer members to serve on the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board, which develops and maintains accrual-based International Public Sector Accounting Standards and other reporting guidance for use by governments and public sector entities worldwide. Selected nominees will serve a three-year term. For more details, and to nominate candidates, see the call for nominations here. Submissions are due by Jan. 31, 2026.

Pietro LaPorta has joined Prager Metis, New York, as partner-in-charge of the Public Company Audi Practice. He brings more than 25 years of experience working with clients across a range of industries, including manufacturing, retail, technology, life sciences, professional services, gaming, and cannabis.

The New York State Society of CPAs is looking for new members for the board of trustees of its Foundation for Accounting Education. Trustees typically meet four times a year, and are responsible for approval of the FAE budget, setting the general direction for educational programs, evaluating curriculum, and developing strategies for program diversification and effectiveness. Nominations should be sent to NYCPA president-elect Michael Durant at presidentelect@nysscpa.org by Jan. 9, 2026.
