Sovos releases features for sales and use tax, data mapping
ShareShareShareShareShare

Compliance solutions provider Sovos announced expansions to its AI platform, including features such as product tax code classifications for sales and use taxes and data mapping.

The new Global Tax Determination feature uses AI to analyze  product attributes from ERP and e-commerce systems such as SAP, Oracle and NetSuite to suggest the correct product tax codes with confidence scores, so the team only reviews edge cases while high-confidence classifications process automatically.

The VAT Filing Services feature automatically maps source data to compliance ready formats, eliminating manual file mapping. When the data structure changes or regulations require new fields, users can update their mapping through AI instead of waiting for the Sovos team to reconfigure the integration. This is in contrast to current processes, which often required multiple file reviews, field corrections, and reconfigurations whenever data structures or regulatory requirements changed.

“With the launch of Sovi AI, we set out to reexamine how compliance is managed inside an organization – identify the inefficiencies, eliminate the redundancies and create scalable processes across the business,” said Sovos CEO Kevin Akeroyd in a statement. “The latest release of Sovi delivers on this goal by replacing manual and mundane tasks with tax compliance intelligence that learns, adapts, and is flexible to the needs of the individual customer.”

The announcement builds on Sovos’ ongoing efforts toward increasing its AI capabilities. This past July the company announced the launch of its new AI called Sovi—derived from the Latin roots sophia (wisdom) and vis (power)—which operates through natural language and visual interfaces to enable both technical and nontechnical staff to navigate tax compliance. The company at the time stressed that its new AI capacities are not a standalone feature, but part of an intelligent layer embedded throughout the compliance lifecycle.

The new product tax code classifications and data mapping capabilities are available by invitation to early adopters, beginning December 2025.
